I remember a time when simply hearing the words, “my truth,” would trigger an emotional reaction within me. I would think to myself, no! no! no! there’s no such thing as “your truth” and “my truth,” there’s only “THE TRUTH.” I have now learned to carefully consider how the idea of “my truth” and “your truth,” may explain the many apparent contradictions in the world.
The world is the stage upon which all of humanity views the collective consciousness. I began to understand how two people can look at the same thing and see something completely different. After all, our thoughts, powered by our feelings, produce images and experiences that match or mirror the belief about what is being looked upon. The spiritual work that is now mine to do is to reflect on the beliefs I have contributed to the whole, that may or may not be so. It takes courage to make the decision to reimagine a new and more constructive way of being a world citizen.
I know and understand that the Law of Mind Action, does not distinguish between what is True and what is believed to be true. It simply receives the slightest impression of the thought it receives and responds without discrimination. It’s no different when a farmer who desires a field of artichokes erroneously plants cucumber seeds. The soil does not self-correct, it simply responds to what it has received. Of course, the master teacher, Jesus, simply said, “you reap what you sow.” The events of recent months have taught me a lot about what is meant by, “it is done unto you as you believe.”
When studying world religions, Ernest Holmes discovered a common thread running through them all. However, each one expressed through the rituals and customs of their particular culture. The masses saw only differences, and asserted beliefs accordingly, claiming “my truth” is the real truth. This limited perception deepened the sense of separation that further divides our beautiful human family.
My truth and your truth play out, not only in religion, they play out in all systems of human endeavor that would otherwise be unified. While unity does not mean being in lock-step, it does mean being in alignment with the inherent nature of being. The deep desires within each of us are our inherent nature. I believe it is the inherent nature of humanity to experience love, wisdom, beauty, harmony, joy, peace, abundance, power and wholeness. The fulfillment of our desire, may show up in a myriad of ways, according to our personal choices, which also is our birthright.
Universal Truth Principles always transcend any particular belief based on culture, tradition, myth, superstition and personal gain. Enlightened ones of all time who have been so inspired to uplift humanity have set aside the lesser for the greater. Martin Luther King Jr. led millions of people without asking anyone to conform to his particular religion, but to conform to universal principles of love, brotherhood, and freedom. Mahatma Gandhi demonstrated non-violence without requesting membership to his faith-teaching. Mother Teresa shed her love and peace on all peoples of the world without declaring that my truth is the only way. Jesus taught, “I Am the way and the truth and the life.” Surely, he was referring to the Indwelling Presence, The One Spirit, The Living Principle.
At the center of every living being there is the Principle of Truth. It is God. The expression of It is filtered through individual consciousness. This movement of consciousness from the invisible to the visible makes up our world. Discerning what is True versus what is believed to true requires a keen focus. There is a Law of Mind Action, or a Science of Mind that acts upon what is believed to be true, whether real or imagined.
The Indwelling Spirit provides a space for a new normal of Oneness and Wholeness in my consciousness.
