THE CONSEQUENCES OF MY TRUTH

I remember a time when simply hearing the words, “my truth,” would trigger an emotional reaction within me. I would think to myself, no! no! no! there’s no such thing as “your truth” and “my truth,” there’s only “THE TRUTH.”   I have now learned to carefully consider how the idea of “my truth” and “your truth,” may explain the many apparent contradictions in the world. 

The world is the stage upon which all of humanity views the collective consciousness. I began to understand how two people can look at the same thing and see something completely different. After all, our thoughts, powered by our feelings, produce images and experiences that match or mirror the belief about what is being looked upon. The spiritual work that is now mine to do is to reflect on the beliefs I have contributed to the whole, that may or may not be so. It takes courage to make the decision to reimagine a new and more constructive way of being a world citizen. 

I know and understand that the Law of Mind Action, does not distinguish between what is True and what is believed to be true.  It simply receives the slightest impression of the thought it receives and responds without discrimination. It’s no different when a farmer who desires a field of artichokes erroneously plants cucumber seeds. The soil does not self-correct, it simply responds to what it has received. Of course, the master teacher, Jesus, simply said, “you reap what you sow.” The events of recent months have taught me a lot about what is meant by, “it is done unto you as you believe.” 

When studying world religions, Ernest Holmes discovered a common thread running through them all.  However, each one expressed through the rituals and customs of their particular culture. The masses saw only differences, and asserted beliefs accordingly, claiming “my truth” is the real truth. This limited perception deepened the sense of separation that further divides our beautiful human family.

My truth and your truth play out, not only in religion, they play out in all systems of human endeavor that would otherwise be unified. While unity does not mean being in lock-step, it does mean being in alignment with the inherent nature of being. The deep desires within each of us are our inherent nature. I believe it is the inherent nature of humanity to experience love, wisdom, beauty, harmony, joy, peace, abundance, power and wholeness.  The fulfillment of our desire, may show up in a myriad of ways, according to our personal choices, which also is our birthright. 

Universal Truth Principles always transcend any particular belief based on culture, tradition, myth, superstition and personal gain. Enlightened ones of all time who have been so inspired to uplift humanity have set aside the lesser for the greater. Martin Luther King Jr.  led millions of people without asking anyone to conform to his particular religion, but to conform to universal principles of love, brotherhood, and freedom.  Mahatma Gandhi demonstrated non-violence without requesting membership to his faith-teaching. Mother Teresa shed her love and peace on all peoples of the world without declaring that my truth is the only way. Jesus taught, “I Am the way and the truth and the life.” Surely, he was referring to the Indwelling Presence, The One Spirit, The Living Principle. 

At the center of every living being there is the Principle of Truth. It is God. The expression of It is filtered through individual consciousness. This movement of consciousness from the invisible to the visible makes up our world.  Discerning what is True versus what is believed to true requires a keen focus. There is a Law of Mind Action, or a Science of Mind that acts upon what is believed to be true, whether real or imagined.

BREAKTHROUGH

I remember how exciting it was to experience my first luxury cruise. Late one night I wandered up to the top deck of the ship. I had never seen a darker night. It was pitch black except for the stars above, and perhaps moonlight. I was in awe. It was like being in the womb of eternity as the ship rolled peacefully along the black waters. 

I imagine that prehistoric people gazed into the darkness as well as the light above with a bit of trepidation. However, there was always faith that the rising sun would yield the light of a brand-new day. This was their normal way of life. 

I imagine as they gazed deeply into Life, a breakthrough in consciousness occurred. They began to illumine the darkness with candles, a new normal; to oil lamps, a new normal; to kerosene lamps, a new normal; to the light bulb, a new normal. In the language of spirituality, one might say evolution is always moving humanity from glory to glory. 

Moving from darkness to light through self-awareness is quite a feat.

In moments of discontent, by means of meditation, I wander to the top deck of the ship of Zion1, a metaphor for my consciousness. Here I gaze deeply into nature until I see the flickering Light hovering above. While I do not deny my experience in the world; I begin to use the apparent facts to determine what it is, in contrast, that is my true desire. The color and tone of my mind moves from sense-consciousness to spiritual consciousness. I no longer act as if I am a spectator watching a movie, wondering what is going to happen next. No, instead I act as if I am the Director. I affirm the Truth. 

Flashes of Light, such as: “You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world…2 inspires me. I remind myself there is only One Power, the Great IAM; and, this Presence is individualized in me, through me, and as me. Moment by moment, the spirt that indwells me is the power that either sustains that which is in the world, or re-directs the energy of my attention, initiating a new normal.

I embrace the teaching of Ancient Wisdom that says: Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. 3 Soon, there is a breakthrough, a new normal. Morning is broken.  

Ernest Holmes teaches: “There is one power in the Universe and we can all use it.”   I notice when I am hanging out in the upper room of consciousness and gazing deeply into the nature of Peace, Harmony, Love, Wisdom, Oneness, and Wholeness; there is an up-leveling, or a breakthrough, if you will. The new normal beckons me to follow the beacon of light that guides me from glory to glory.

I SET THE TONE

Ever since I began conducting classes in the study of the Science of Mind, there has always been at least one student who exclaims, “Oh, how I wish I had known this years ago!” Conversely, there are others who have said, “I have always thought this way, I just didn’t know there were others who did so as well.” In both cases, the implication is, different choices would have been made regarding life-changing issues if only certain knowledge was either known or validated.

My response, has always been to the effect, “Now is a beginning point” or “When the student is ready the teacher appears,” and similar platitudes. These things I say to others are a reinforcement in my own consciousness. After all, when I first discovered the Law of Mind in Action both aspects were true for me. While I intuitively understood the Principles being espoused; I had no idea there was a “way” or a “method” in which they may be implemented.

Today I bear witness to the emerging consciousness of what is being described, by some, as a “new normal.” I challenge myself to stay awake to the finished line. In my awakened state I involve myself in the ever-unfolding evolution by way of my thoughts and actions. This way, I participate fully in my own peace of mind as well as a world that works for everyone.

No sooner than I wrote the above paragraph, I hear the breaking news about the assault on our nation’s foundation. Suddenly, I was aware of unleashed emotions coursing through my psyche. The discomfort reminded me of Robbin’s recent lesson. It was time, right now, to implement the up-leveling of the frequency in my thoughts and emotions. Otherwise, I risk slipping into the level of the problem, thereby closing the door to the possibilities that yield solutions. It is amazing to me how quickly a concept of truth, once accepted, is brought to test.

I always set the tone.

With the recent news, coupled with the prolonged pandemic, I noticed my emotions vacillating between sadness and anger. However, just like turning the volume either up or down on my TV, I realized, I may adjust this range of emotions that flood my mind. They each evoke a different response to the stimuli all around me. The spectrum includes fear, despair, anger, sadness, Hope, Faith, and Love.

In an effort to up-level my frequency (the vibration of my state of mind) I slip into the High Watch ~ a prayer without words. I slip into the silent realm of Is-ness. In the quietness of my own being, I turned completely away from all appearances. It is here that I feel, sense, and know the Presence, Power, and the Love of God as Ultimate Reality.

In this elevated consciousness, I vacillate between the tones of sadness, Faith and Love. I deliberately began to look for even the slightest evidence of good. I remain steadfast in the application of Principle; remembering there is no opposing force to the Power for Good in the universe. In my awakened state, Principle is actualized. I hear the news that the heart of our nation is being stabilized.

I continue to proclaim the highest ideals for myself, my nation, and my world. My unwavering faith and ever-expanding love for humanity are received by the Law of Mind that responds by corresponding to the good I seek. Gratitude arises within me.

BUILDING A NEW TOMORROW

Now that the holidays are over, and the new year has begun, I settle down to the business of moving forward in the direction of my dreams.  Some of my dreams are a continuation of what I began in 2020 and earlier. Some are ideas that are now ready to be birthed. Some are goals that I continue to nurture. 

‘Does this mean’, I ask myself, ‘that I ignore all that happened in 2020, saying: last year is the past and my objective is to live in the present?’ Robert Burns proposed this same question when he wrote: Should auld acquaintance be forgot And never brought to mind? Should auld acquaintance be forgot And days of auld lang syne?”

No, I do not forget 2020. Instead, I reflect on what I’ve learned, what I now know, and what is now mine to do. 

I build a new tomorrow. I draw the pattern clear. 1

 Past events, although fading into the realm of memory, support me in my journey of awakening to what works and what does not work. With a clear assessment, I now consciously break all former agreements that no longer serve me or the world.

With clear consideration, I now use the creative power of my mind to embrace a vision aligned with Absolute Truth. I live anew. I let the eternal verities of wholeness, love, unity, harmony, abundance, peace, wisdom, joy and beauty permeate my consciousness. These are principles that remain the same, yesterday, today and forever; and, they are my spiritual guides. 

“I make my plans with wisdom, for Mind is ever here.”

From the perspective of high mysticism, I know there are no actual beginnings or endings. Life simply unfolds as one great continuum; a continuous passing of Spirit into form.   However, from a practical point of view, it is essential that I carefully measure my stance in consciousness as I notice what I think, say and do.  In the words of Maya Angelou, “All great achievements require time.”

“My thinking makes the future; my actions pave the way.”

I realize that it is the unified vision of the inhabitants of the planet that determines the events of the world.   It is the Creative Power of God operating through the Immutable Law of Correspondence, that brings about these things imagined.

I clearly see that my contribution to the whole is my personal perception of life. It is now time, I tell myself, to activate the blessing of a happy new year and beyond by expressing my highest ideals. In so doing, I participate fully in the evolution of humanity.

“I build a new tomorrow, on patterns formed today.”

I remember to seek divine guidance, so I embrace the prayer of St. Francis of Assisi: 

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light.
where there is sadness, joy.

EVERYTHING IS CONSCIOUSNESS

The tradition of making resolutions at the beginning of the year has sometimes felt like a futile act of wishful thinking when I fail to see the fruits of my goals. With careful observation, I have noticed a pattern regarding this dilemma. 

I notice when my resolutions are promises to myself that require disciplines that I have never practiced, they are often abandoned early on, with no remembrance of my fervent vows.

Likewise, when my prayers are bargains, I make with God, in exchange for the things I desire; I have found myself reneging on my end of the deal.

I begin to feel the words of the Apostle Paul, saying, “I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.” (Romans 7:15) 

I see that both resolutions and prayers are for the purpose of experiencing a more fulfilling life.   The results, be they positive or negative, are a reflection of my self-acceptance; i.e., if I truly feel worthy of the expanded good. 

Obviously, wishful thinking and negotiating with God are the evidence of former concepts about my relationship with the Divine.  I now know there is a Law of Mind that responds to the faith I have in my own words. This Law is sure to bring about the fuller life of my dreams. 

With this realization, I clearly see there are old beliefs, buried deep in my subconscious mind, still operating in my individual realm of ‘consciousness.  Is it possible, I ask myself, that these ‘hidden beliefs,’ that no longer represent my current thinking, have a tendency to neutralize the most noble ideals I envision for my life?

Ancient Wisdom assures me a fuller life is never withheld. It is the soul forever becoming its greater-yet-to-be. I remember the teachings. 

“What you decide on will be done, and light will shine on your ways.” (Job 22: 28 NIV). 
There is creative power in the decisions I make.

“The kingdom of heaven is within.” (Luke 17: 20, 21). 
I let words of beauty, harmony, wisdom, love, and joy permeate the thing I desire to manifest.

“It is the Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” (Luke 12: 32)
The word of God flows, easily and effortlessly through me, establishing greater good on earth.

“All that the Father hath is Mine.” John 16:15
The Creative Mind of God and my mind are the same mind. God’s creative thoughts are my creative thoughts.

I am now wide awake, seeking first the realm of goodness that exist within me right now. I pay attention to what I think, say and do. In so doing, I consciously and deliberately neutralize all limiting and sabotaging thoughts.   I announce, with authority, the high resolve of my inspired thoughts.

My resolutions for the coming year of 2021 are anchored in a consciousness that I am empowered by my own spiritual nature, to do what is mine to do, that brings about the good I desire for a greater expression of life. My prayers for 2021 are reflected in a world that works for everyone; a world of health, wealth, unity and love.  

I heed the teachings of Howard Thurman, and I “keep fresh before me the moments of my high resolve.”
